Guidelines for advertisers for The San Marin View:

If possible, please provide the ad to us in an electronic format such as a Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher or Adobe PDF document - or as a JPEG, TIFF or GIF file. Otherwise, the SMIA can create a simple ad for you by scanning a printed business card or other high quality printed matter into an electronic format.

The size of the ad can be full page, but realize it will be resized to fit into the edges of the document. Please see a sample issue of the view for an example. The ad in The View will appear no wider than 2.75" across and between 3.0 and 5.0" in height (subject to space limitations).

Remember, all ads will be reproduced in black and white, so color graphics, text and backgrounds may not reproduce well. Also, the quality of the reproduction process for the The View newsletter is about that of a high-quality photocopier, so what might look fine on a business card printed using an offset printing process may not look very good in The View.

We can take business cards, scan them and use them as ads depending on the design. The problem is that sometimes the text on a card will be too small or too fine, or the graphics will not reproduce well in black and white. To see if a business card will work, try copying the card on a good quality, black and white photocopier, and if it looks OK, we can probably make it work in an ad. In some cases we can englarge the card a bit to make it more readable.

If you don't have an existing ad that will work, and don't have the expertise to create an ad, we suggest that you go to a graphic artist and have them create something for you that will work. Show them a copy of The View as an example. Contact smiamail@gmial.com if you or your graphics person have any questions about what is required.
